Chirala police on Friday apprehended an interstate burglar, known for his expertise in daytime house break-ins.
According to Chirala DSP Md Moyin, the accused, Ranganadham Kiran (32), a resident of Guduru town in Nellore district, is reportedly linked to around 65 theft cases across Andhra Pradesh. The arrest followed a burglary on December 19, 2025, at Kepal Colony, when the complainant, Putta Phaniraja, returned from the hospital to find her house broken into and gold ornaments worth Rs 2.3 lakh missing.
A special police team, led by DSP Moyin and CI S Subbarao, used technical surveillance to track the suspect. Kiran was arrested on January 16, 2026, near Chirala railway station by WSI G Rajyalakshmi and her team.
Authorities recovered 159 grams of gold jewelry valued at Rs 20.67 lakh and Rs 20,000 in cash from Kiran, which were connected to multiple thefts reported across Chirala, Siddavattam, and Repalle police stations.
District SP B Umamaheshwar praised the police team for their prompt action in cracking the case and recovering stolen property, highlighting the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in tackling interstate crime.
