In a major breakthrough, the District Intelligence Unit (DIU) has arrested Randhir Kumar alias Rambali Sharma, a notorious top-10 criminal of the Danapur police station area, in connection with the sensational murder of undertrial prisoner Chhote Sarkar.

Randhir Kumar, a resident of Sambhupura village under Naubatpur police station limits in Patna district, was wanted in the high-profile shooting that took place inside the Danapur court premises on December 15, 2023. Chhote Sarkar was shot dead by armed assailants while being produced before the court, sending shockwaves across Bihar’s law enforcement machinery.

Confirming the arrest, Patna (West) Superintendent of Police Bhanu Pratap Singh said Randhir has a long criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him, including offences under the NDPS Act and murder-related charges.

Police officials said the arrest was made following sustained intelligence gathering and technical surveillance. Randhir is believed to be a key figure in organised crime activities operating in and around Patna.

Further interrogation is underway to ascertain his exact role in the court murder, identify other conspirators, and uncover the larger criminal network involved in the attack. Police said more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
