Police in Ranchi have arrested a couple in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old man in Domadih village under the Sonahatu police station limits.

The accused, Sulochana Devi (24) and her husband Kshatrapati Mahto (25), allegedly killed Harihar Mahto (25) over an illicit relationship. Harihar’s headless body was recovered near the Kanchi river, while his severed head was found about a kilometre away after an extensive search.

According to police, Sulochana had been in a relationship with Harihar for the past two years. When Kshatrapati discovered the affair, he allegedly forced his wife to call Harihar to their home on January 31. Upon his arrival, the couple, along with another accomplice, allegedly murdered him.

Based on technical evidence, police detained and interrogated the couple, who confessed to the crime and revealed the location of the body. An FIR has been registered, and both accused have been sent to judicial custody.

Police are continuing their investigation to trace the third accused and recover the murder weapon.
