n a significant crackdown against narcotics, Sirsa police have arrested three drug peddlers this week, seizing over 1.6 kg of opium and heroin in separate incidents. The action comes amid growing concern over rising drug abuse in the region.
On Monday, the Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested Ramchalitar Kumar, also known as Ritesh Kumar, from the Old Housing Board Colony. A native of Gaya, Bihar, Ramchalitar had been living in Sirsa on rent. Police seized 1.526 kg of opium, valued at approximately Rs3 lakh, from his possession. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, according to Sub-Inspector Rajender Singh.
In another operation on Sunday, a young man was caught near T-Point in Patli Dabar village after attempting to flee upon seeing police. A search led to the discovery of 115 grams of opium in his pocket.
Later that day, another youth was arrested near the Kanganpur Road railway crossing in Friends Colony. He was found with 6.3 grams of heroin. Sub-Inspector Prem Kumar confirmed both cases were booked under the NDPS Act.
In response to these incidents, Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma held a district-level meeting to strategize further steps in combating drug abuse. He emphasized a multi-pronged approach, including strict policing, community involvement, and youth engagement through sports.
Superintendent of Police Dr Mayank Gupta echoed the DC’s views, stressing that public cooperation and support from social organizations are essential in the fight against drugs.
