Acting on a late-night tip-off, the Commissioner’s Task Force (East Zone) and Chilkalguda Police raided an apartment in Secunderabad on Tuesday, dismantling a network allegedly supplying MDMA (Ecstasy).
Two accused drug peddlers, along with seven users including a surgeon, an IT recruiter, and private employees, were detained during the operation. The police seized 100 grams of MDMA valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh from the accused.
The raid took place at Flat No. G-1, Ideal Home Apartments, Seethaphalmandi, following surveillance of suspicious activity. Authorities say the action prevented a fresh batch of MDMA from entering the city’s club circuit.
Along with the narcotics, officers recovered 10 mobile phones and a digital weighing machine. The case is registered under Cr. No. 458/2025 under Sections 8(c) read with 22(c), 27 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
M Ramakanth alias Kiran (44): Office assistant, Chilkalguda resident, native of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh
Mudavath Prasad (30): Vacuum technician, resident of Meerpet, native of Achampet
Both Ramakanth and Prasad were previously arrested in a similar NDPS case in July 2024 but had secured bail and reportedly resumed trafficking. Investigators revealed they sourced MDMA from a Nigerian contact in Bengaluru at Rs 10,000 per gram, selling it for Rs 15,000 per gram. They allegedly connected with clients via a dating app.
Officials highlighted the health risks involved, noting some members of the group are HIV-positive and engage in unsafe practices while under the influence.
