Delhi police have arrested Ram Singh Meena (62), the mastermind behind a gang that posed as CBI officers to rob a property dealer of Rs2.5 crore. Meena was the director of an NGO named “Crime Bureau of Investigation,” which the gang used to mimic an official government agency. Two associates, including the NGO secretary, were arrested earlier.
The case surfaced after Manpreet Singh, a property dealer from Indirapuram, lodged a complaint on August 20, reporting that his aide, Ravi Shankar, was robbed at gunpoint outside his Vivek Vihar office on August 19.
Police said four individuals, including a woman, intercepted Shankar, displayed fake ID cards, and carried walkie-talkies to pose as CBI officers. They reportedly snatched a bag containing Rs1.1 crore and then entered Singh’s office, assaulted an employee, and fled with additional cash, taking a total of around Rs2.5 crore.
According to DCP Prashant Priya Gautam, a dedicated police team examined over 100 CCTV cameras, tracked vehicle numbers, and used secret informers to locate the gang. The investigation led officers to Saidulajab, where the NGO office was situated.
The gang meticulously planned the heist, using fake ID cards with official logos, two hired Ertiga cars, and wireless communication sets to create an air of authenticity. Earlier arrests included Papori Baruah (30), originally from Assam, and Deepak (32).
With the arrest of Ram Singh Meena, police have obtained fresh leads. Investigators said at least four women and several men were involved in the robbery. So far, Rs1.25 crore has been recovered, and efforts continue to trace the remaining money and apprehend other absconding gang members.
