A 28-year-old auto driver was brutally attacked with a knife during a family quarrel in Anna Nagar West Extension on Tuesday night, leading to the arrest of his mother-in-law and a local rowdy.
The victim, Babu, lives with his wife Bharathi and their three-year-old son. According to the JJ Nagar police, Babu frequently returned home drunk and often fought with his wife.
On the night of the incident, a heated argument broke out, prompting Bharathi to call her mother Rakshitha (52) for help. Upon her arrival, the situation reportedly worsened. Police say Rakshitha then contacted local rowdy Sanjay Sai, alias ‘Muttai Puffs’, to intervene.
“Sanjay and another unidentified man arrived and attacked Babu with a knife on the head before fleeing the scene,” a police official confirmed.
Based on Babu’s complaint, both Rakshitha and Sanjay were arrested on Wednesday and have been remanded to judicial custody. The police are continuing efforts to identify and trace the second assailant involved in the attack.
