A 29-year-old woman, Rakhi, and her lover, Gurdeep (31), were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly strangling her husband, Vijay (30), to death in Surajpur, Greater Noida. Police recovered the murder weapon, a scarf, from the couple.
Officials said that on Monday evening, they received a report of a man’s suspicious death at a room in Deola village. Rakhi had initially told a neighbor that Vijay had suffered sudden stomach pains and passed away. The neighbor alerted authorities, prompting a police investigation.
Upon examination, police noticed marks on Vijay’s neck. An autopsy confirmed that strangulation was the cause of death. An FIR was filed under BNS Section 103(1) (murder).
Investigators revealed that Rakhi had been in a relationship with Gurdeep for four years. She had left Vijay a year ago to live with him, but Vijay remained an obstacle to their relationship. About two weeks prior to the murder, Rakhi asked Gurdeep to stay at her Deola residence. On Monday, the pair allegedly strangled Vijay with a scarf. Gurdeep later fled the scene, and Rakhi misled the neighbor about the cause of death.
Police confirmed that the couple has three children under the age of 13, who currently reside with their grandparents in Belon village.
