Rakeem Miles Convicted for Manslaughter of Samuel Winter in Southwark Station Attack
Rakeem Miles, 23, has been convicted of manslaughter after attacking Samuel Winter, 28, in an unprovoked assault at Southwark Station.

Fatal Attack Over a Minor Incident
The tragic event unfolded when Miles followed Samuel after he brushed past him on an escalator. Once outside the ticket barriers, Miles grabbed Samuel from behind and struck him in the head, causing him to collapse on the station stairs.

Paramedics performed CPR at the scene before transporting Samuel to the hospital, where he died on August 23, a day after the attack.

Police Investigation & Arrest
Authorities swiftly tracked Miles using CCTV, identifying him at a shop where he had topped up his Oyster card. Though he had just left, officers located and arrested him nearby.

Initially charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH), Miles’ charge was upgraded to manslaughter following Samuel’s death.

Family’s Heartbreaking Tribute
Samuel’s family released an emotional statement:

“We have lost our gentle, compassionate, funny, and intelligent son. The pain of his loss is almost unbearable for us and those whose lives he touched.”

Despite their grief, they forgave Miles unconditionally and thanked the British Transport Police and Crown Prosecution Service for their work.

Police Statement on the Case
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell called the case “truly tragic,” emphasizing how “one punch changed the lives of Samuel’s family forever.” He noted that Miles showed no remorse, leaving the scene and continuing his evening as if nothing had happened.

Sentencing Date Set for May 8
Miles is due to be sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on May 8. Authorities have reiterated their zero tolerance for violence on public transport, urging for greater awareness of the devastating impact of such attacks.
