In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Kochi City Police arrested two teenagers on Monday, August 11, 2025, for possessing a large quantity of suspected ganja. The arrest took place at Aanavathil Junction, near Eloor.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Raju (19) and Suroj (18), both hailing from Murshidabad district in West Bengal.

According to police sources, the duo was intercepted during a routine patrol based on intelligence inputs about a possible interstate drug smuggling operation. A search of their belongings led to the seizure of 40 kilograms of suspected ganja.

Authorities believe the consignment was intended for distribution within Kochi and surrounding areas. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to uncover the larger network involved.

The arrest highlights the growing trend of teenagers being exploited in drug trafficking operations, especially from economically vulnerable regions.
