In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force (East Zone) along with Chilkalguda Police arrested an interstate drug peddler on Thursday. The accused, Rajikul Hoque, a 21-year-old labourer from Maldah district in West Bengal, was caught red-handed while attempting to sell 50 grams of amphetamine—a high-potency synthetic stimulant—worth Rs7.6 lakh.
According to police, Rajikul had previously worked in Hyderabad as a mason but returned to West Bengal due to financial difficulties. Struggling to support his family, he allegedly came into contact with Mojibur Mistri, a known drug supplier currently absconding. Mistri reportedly persuaded Rajikul into joining the drug trade, citing quick and large profits.
In a desperate attempt to resolve his financial problems, Rajikul purchased 50 grams of amphetamine and traveled back to Hyderabad to sell the substance to local drug users. Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended him near Line Bazar Masjid, Chilkalguda, while he was waiting to strike a deal.
“He was caught with the contraband in hand,” said Ande Srinivasa Rao, Additional DCP of the Task Force. A case has been registered, and the accused is now in judicial custody. Authorities are pursuing leads to locate Mojibur Mistri and other possible members of the supply chain.
The bust marks another step in Hyderabad Police’s ongoing campaign to eliminate the growing narcotics network in the city.
