In a chilling revelation, the Bidhannagar detective department has uncovered new leads in the murder of Salt Lake gold trader Swapan Kamila, whose mutilated body was found near a canal in New Town on October 29.

Police have arrested Raju Dhali, the driver of Rajganj BDO Prashanta Barman, and Tufan Thapa, a local contractor and the BDO’s aide. Both have been remanded in 12-day police custody. Investigators believe the duo used a vehicle with a blue beacon — assigned to the BDO — to dispose of the victim’s body.

According to sources, Kamila was abducted from Duttabad, Salt Lake, and brutally assaulted in a New Town flat. Six people were allegedly involved, and police are now searching for the remaining four accused.

During interrogation, Dhali and Thapa reportedly admitted to assaulting Kamila with a belt and sticks. The trader lost consciousness after being hit on the head, after which his body was taken away in the BDO’s vehicle.

Investigators are also probing the alleged role of BDO Prashanta Barman, after evidence surfaced linking his car to both the crime scene and the body disposal. The BDO, who has denied the allegations, is under scrutiny as police analyze CCTV footage and statements from witnesses.

The case took a twist when a local resident, Ashok Kar, claimed he had stolen gold from the BDO’s flat and sold it to the murdered trader — a statement that police are still verifying.

Officials said the investigation is progressing, with efforts ongoing to uncover the full conspiracy behind Kamila’s gruesome killing.
