The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad’s city crime branch seized 18.3 kilograms of ganja, valued at approximately Rs 9.15 lakh, from three accused near Naroda Patia on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off about drug trafficking, SOG officers positioned themselves near Memco Crossroads. When the suspects were spotted traveling in a CNG autorickshaw, officers swiftly intercepted them, preventing any attempt to escape.
The accused have been identified as Rajeshwari alias Chachli Rathod, Bhavesh Parmar, and Sahil Garange, all residents of Ahmedabad. The autorickshaw driver was questioned and released after being cleared of involvement.
Upon searching three cloth bags in the rickshaw, police recovered nine parcels wrapped in brown tape containing a greenish, pungent vegetable substance, initially identified as ganja. Further forensic tests are underway.
Investigations revealed that the drugs were sourced from Nandurbar district in Maharashtra and intended for local sale in Santoshinagar. In addition, Rs 550 in cash and three mobile phones were seized during the operation.
The DCB police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the seized material has been sent to the Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Gandhinagar for analysis.
Authorities emphasized that the operation was conducted with full adherence to legal procedures, including the presence of a government panel during the seizure.
