In a breakthrough operation, police arrested two inter-state fraudsters on Tuesday, solving multiple fraud cases in which victims were tricked out of their savings through cunning scams.

The accused, identified as Rajesh Mishra alias Punjabi (40) and Anand Yadav (19), both residents of Karvi, Chitrakoot, were caught during a search operation at Kali Ghati Sariya under the Manikpur police station limits. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the duo and recovered Rs45,000 in cash, mobile phones, and a motorbike used in their crimes.

SP Chitrakoot Arun Kumar Singh stated that the two targeted individuals near banks and markets, deceiving them with fake bundles of cash and clever manipulation.

In one reported incident, Hari Prasad Yadav and his son had just withdrawn Rs8,000 from a bank when they were approached by the accused. Rajesh and Anand offered what appeared to be a bundle of Rs1 lakh, asking for some smaller currency in exchange. Trusting them, Hari Prasad handed over the Rs8,000. When the duo failed to return, the victims checked the bundle and discovered it contained paper pieces disguised with Rs500 notes on the outside.

Further investigations revealed Rajesh was involved in several cases in Banda and Prayagraj, while Anand faced charges in Chitrakoot.

Both have been booked under Sections 303 and 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sent to jail.
