Lucknow Police on Monday arrested a 44-year-old driver accused of stealing Rs10 lakh in cash and jewellery from his employer’s residence in the Sushant Golf City area.

The accused, Rajendra Sharma, was apprehended from the Jawaharnagar locality of Gajraula in Amroha district, where he had been living in rented accommodation along with the stolen valuables.

According to police, the theft took place on the night of February 24–25 when the employer’s family was away. On February 27, complainant Nilesh Singh, a resident of Sarsanwa under Sushant Golf City police station limits, filed a complaint alleging that his driver had broken open a locker and almirah at his residence and fled with cash and jewellery.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vasanath Rallapalli confirmed that an FIR was registered based on the complaint, and the accused was arrested on March 2.

During interrogation, Sharma allegedly confessed that he committed the theft out of greed. He disclosed that he had concealed the stolen items inside a black backpack at his rented house. Acting on his information, police recovered the entire stolen property, including ₹10 lakh in cash and a substantial quantity of gold and silver jewellery.

The accused was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, DCP Agarwal announced a cash reward of Rs25,000 for the police team for successfully solving the case and recovering all the valuables.
