Two youths from Rajasthan, Naseeb Khan and Sahil Mansuri, were arrested by the crime branch in the city for attempting to deliver MD drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore in the international market, police said on Sunday. Authorities also seized a bike and two iPhones from the accused.
According to DCP (crime) Rajesh Kumar Tripathi, the police received a tip-off that two men from Rajasthan would be supplying MD drugs near the railway bridge on MR 4 Road. The crime branch team reached the location and spotted the suspects arriving on a bike. On spotting the police, the duo tried to flee but fell and sustained injuries.
Preliminary questioning revealed that Naseeb Khan and Sahil Mansuri, residents of Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, had purchased the MD drugs at a cheap rate and planned to sell them at a higher price in the city. A search led to the recovery of 255 grams of the drugs.
Police estimated the drugs’ value at Rs 2.5 crore in the international market. A case has been registered under sections 8/22 of the NDPS Act. The accused also disclosed that many villagers from their hometown are involved in supplying MD drugs.
DCP Tripathi added that this year, the crime branch has taken action against 84 drug suppliers across 46 cases, seizing significant quantities of narcotics including brown sugar, MD drugs, charas, ganja, alprazolam tablets, and codeine syrups — collectively valued at Rs 11 crore in the international market.
