The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police successfully arrested Sushil Karnani, a 42-year-old fugitive involved in multiple drug trafficking cases across the state. Karnani, a resident of Ajmer, had been absconding since 2021 and was a prime suspect in three separate cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
ADG (SOG) VK Singh confirmed that Karnani’s arrest followed a covert operation led by DIG (SOG) Paris Deshmukh and SP (Anti-Narcotics). After a four-year manhunt, Karnani was finally tracked down after fleeing through various locations including Ghaziabad, Delhi, and the Northeast states of Tinsukia, Jorhat, and Dimapur. His escape eventually took him to Nepal, prompting the police to expand their operations into Kathmandu. The fugitive was apprehended near the Raxaul border between India and Nepal.
Karnani is believed to have operated under the guise of a pharmaceutical business, having established a fictitious company called Biomaxstar Pharmaceuticals in Dimapur, Nagaland. He sourced banned substances like Tramadol and Alprazolam from Dehradun and distributed them illegally to firms in Jaipur and Ajmer. These drugs were stored in warehouses located in Alwargate and Ramganj.
The arrest is considered a significant blow to the drug trafficking networks in Rajasthan, with authorities believing it will disrupt the illegal distribution of drugs in the region.
