Coimbatore: The Annur Police have arrested Rajasekar for allegedly killing his father, Viswanathan, during a property dispute. The incident occurred on Sunday in Bharathi Nagar, following years of legal battles over ownership and maintenance of the family home.
According to police reports, the confrontation escalated when Rajasekar allegedly pushed his father and struck him on the head with a hollow block stone, resulting in Viswanathan’s death on the spot. Neighbours alerted authorities, who registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and took Rajasekar into custody.
The dispute reportedly began nine years ago, when an earlier altercation led to Viswanathan sustaining injuries to his eye. In 2017, Viswanathan transferred ownership of the Bharathi Nagar house to Rajasekar via a settlement deed. Financial hardship later prompted Viswanathan to reclaim the property through the RDO Court in 2023, which directed Rajasekar to return the house and pay a monthly maintenance of Rs 5,000.
Rajasekar allegedly failed to comply and threatened his father after receiving notice of a subsequent appeal. Police are continuing their investigation into the case, while the deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem and handed over to relatives.
