Thousand Lights police have taken Rajadurai, 29, a travel agent from Madhavaram Milk Colony, into custody for allegedly defrauding two groups of Rs16.48 lakh under the pretense of arranging flight tickets for package tours.
According to authorities, Tamizhendran, 23, from Goripalayam, Madurai, along with 11 friends, was searching for reliable travel agents to plan a Thailand trip. They found an Instagram advertisement for a travel agency on Anna Salai, opposite Anna Flyover in Thousand Lights.
The agency owner, Rajadurai, assured them he could organize a complete Thailand package tour for 12 people, including flight tickets, for Rs7.5 lakh. He promised that the tickets would be booked for travel on January 28, but the bookings never materialized.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the extent of Rajadurai’s fraudulent activities.
