With cattle theft incidents rising across Assam, the Bokakhat sub-division has seen a surge in thefts, causing panic among cattle rearers. Authorities report that thefts are now occurring almost nightly, with cattle being stolen from cowsheds.
Acting on a tip-off from a confidential source, the Kamargaon Police carried out an operation and detained two cattle thieves along with a luxury vehicle.
Arrest of the Accused
On the night of January 30, Raja Ahmed and Ajibur Haque, residents of Biswanath Chariali, were apprehended on National Highway 37 at Bongaon while attempting to steal cattle. The suspects were using a luxury Datsun vehicle (AS02N3245), specially modified to carry up to four cattle at a time.
After interrogation, the two accused were formally arrested and produced before the court. They were remanded to police custody for two days.
Police Advisory to Cattle Owners
Officer-in-Charge Gayatri Bhattacharjee of Kamargaon Police Station urged cattle owners and village defence personnel to remain vigilant amid rising thefts. She advised cattle owners to keep photographs of their cattle safely, as these images could help identify stolen animals.
Authorities are continuing surveillance and operations to curb cattle theft in the region.
