The Bhojpur Cyber Police arrested Rahul Kumar Gupta, a Patna resident, on Saturday for allegedly duping multiple victims of their hard-earned money using sophisticated cyber fraud techniques.
Gupta, from Begampur locality, Patna City, reportedly tricked victims including Amrendra Kumar of Ara, withdrawing Rs 99,999 from his bank account. Authorities revealed his modus operandi during interrogation. Gupta would call victims, instruct them to install a specific app, gain access to their smartphones, and obtain bank details, ATM PINs, net banking passwords, and transaction history. The stolen money was then temporarily transferred to accomplices before Gupta withdrew it for personal use.
The operation was led by DSP Sneh Setu, also serving as SHO of the Bhojpur Cyber Police.
Police recovered incriminating materials from Gupta’s possession, including a QR scanner, two passbooks, two chequebooks, and a register containing bank details of multiple victims. The case, initially lodged on July 20, 2024, was successfully solved following the arrest.
