Two district courts in Tamil Nadu delivered life sentences to five individuals on Thursday in connection with two separate murder cases.

In Salem, the Second Additional District Magistrate Court sentenced Raghupathi (35), Manimaran (39), and Tamilselvan (37) to life imprisonment for the 2018 murder of Manikandan (38). All were construction workers, and the murder stemmed from a drunken altercation at Dalmia Board near Karuppur.

The accused assaulted Manikandan, leaving him unconscious and severely injured. His brother Balakrishnan and maternal uncle discovered him and rushed him to a private hospital, where he was declared dead. Suramanagalam police registered the case and arrested the trio. Judge S Ezhil Velavan also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on each of the convicted.

In a separate case, the Hosur Additional District Court sentenced S Edhubushana Reddy (36) and G Gajendran alias Gaja (32) to double life imprisonment for the fatal shooting of C Lokesh (34) of Bellur near Thally on May 23, 2021, following a dispute. The charges were filed by Thally Police and the verdict was delivered by Judge B Santhosh.

Both cases highlight the swift and decisive action taken by the judiciary in addressing violent crimes.
