In a swift joint operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested Radhe Bissone (30) early Saturday for stealing gold jewellery worth over Rs56 lakh from a train passenger.
The incident occurred aboard the Mumbai-Howrah Express, where a courier carrying gold jewellery for a trader in Amravati fell victim to theft. The courier, traveling in a reserved compartment, had gone to sleep with a bag containing the valuables. As the train approached Nashik Road railway station, he discovered the bag was missing and immediately alerted the authorities.
Acting swiftly, GRP and RPF teams launched a search operation. Based on a tip from the TTE, who saw a man moving towards the general bogie, police located Bissone with two suspicious bags. Upon inspection, the bags were found to contain the stolen jewellery.
Authorities recovered the entire consignment, and Bissone was taken into custody. The successful recovery highlights the importance of coordination between railway security forces in tackling such crimes.
