In a significant breakthrough, the Rachakonda Police have resolved the case of Smt. Putta Venkata Madhavi, a 35-year-old woman who had been missing since January 18, 2025. After a meticulous investigation and analysis of technical evidence, the police arrested her husband, Putta Guru Murthy, 39, in connection with her murder.
The case unfolded after a complaint was filed by Madhavi’s mother, Kuppala Subbamma. She reported that her daughter had been living with her husband and two children in Jillelaguda village. The complaint highlighted a heated argument between Madhavi and Guru Murthy on January 16, 2025, which led to her leaving home in distress. Despite extensive searches by her family, no trace of Madhavi was found.
In the course of their investigation, the police reviewed CCTV footage that showed both Madhavi and Guru Murthy entering their home together on January 15. However, there was no footage of Madhavi leaving afterward, which raised suspicions regarding her whereabouts.
Following further questioning, Guru Murthy confessed to the crime. He admitted that after the argument, he physically attacked Madhavi, causing her to collapse. In a fit of rage, he strangled her, resulting in her death. To cover up the crime, he dismembered her body using a knife and attempted to dispose of the remains by boiling and burning them.
After Guru Murthy’s confession, the case was reclassified from a “missing person” investigation to a murder investigation under sections 103(1), 238, and 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police seized key items related to the crime, including a kitchen knife, a stove, and other tools used during the dismemberment.
The investigation was supervised by Shri. G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, with assistance from key officers in the LB Nagar Zone. The detectives from the Meerpet police station were commended for their quick response and thorough investigation, and awards for their efforts are under consideration.
This case underscores the importance of prompt police action in missing person cases and highlights the tragic consequences of domestic disputes. The police continue to encourage individuals facing abuse or violence to seek help and report their situations to authorities.
