In a significant breakthrough, the Rachakonda Police cracked a major ATM theft case within 23 days, arresting five suspects who stole Rs29.69 lakh from an SBI ATM in Ravirala on March 2.

The accused, all from Haryana and Rajasthan, were identified as:

Rahul alias Rahul Khan (25)

Musthakeem Khan (28)

Sharukh Bashir Khan alias Saroop (25)

Waheed Khan (18)

Shakeel Khan (24)

Mohammed Sarfaraz (28)

One of them, Sharukh Bashir Khan, had already been arrested by Visakhapatnam police on March 21. Four more suspects remain at large, as police continue their investigation.

The gang executed the heist at around 1:55 am on March 2, arriving at the SBI ATM in Ravirala in a car. In just three minutes, they used a gas cutter to break open the machine and steal the cash. To avoid identification, the thieves sprayed black paint on the CCTV camera.

Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu stated that the accused were arrested at Kongarakalan while allegedly planning another theft. The police had formed five special teams to pursue the case, using surveillance and forensic techniques to track the culprits.

The gang specifically targeted Diebold ATM machines, which are older and more vulnerable to tampering. “We’re now replacing them with modern ATMs,” said an SBI official, highlighting the need for upgraded security.

The police emphasized that the accused conducted a detailed recce of isolated areas, selecting targets on the city outskirts to minimize detection.
