A 32-year-old woman, R Nathiya, was arrested on Saturday for embezzling a significant amount of Rs12.59 lakh from a car dealership in Sankari, Salem. Nathiya, who worked as a cashier at Thriveni Car Company Private Limited, a Maruti dealership, is accused of falsifying bills and pocketing money from customers.
According to the Salem District Crime Branch (DCB), Nathiya manipulated billing records to falsely show that customers had received discounts, while secretly taking the money for herself. A complaint was lodged by the human resources head of the dealership, Elavarasan, on Friday, revealing that Nathiya had embezzled the money from 111 customers.
Upon investigating the fraud, the Salem District SP, Gautam Goyal, directed the case to the DCB for further action. Inspector M Bharathi Mohan and DSP P Muniasamy interrogated Nathiya, who admitted to the crime.
Nathiya has been remanded in judicial custody and is currently being held at the Salem Central Prison. The investigation continues as police assess the full extent of the embezzlement and its impact on the dealership’s operations.
