A burglary attempt was foiled at a jewellery store on Sirumugai Four Road in Coimbatore district on Wednesday night, after police on patrol detected suspicious activity. The suspect, identified as R Moorthy (43), a local autorickshaw driver, was arrested the following morning.
According to the Sirumugai police, officers on motorcycle patrol heard strange noises near the back of a jewellery shop. Upon investigation, they discovered that someone had attempted to drill a hole through the shop’s rear wall. The suspect fled upon spotting the police.
Police quickly registered a case and formed a special team to track down the culprit. By examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area, they identified and apprehended Moorthy on Thursday morning.
Police confirmed that Moorthy is a first-time offender, and he has been remanded to judicial custody. Authorities appreciated the swift action by the patrol team that likely prevented a major theft.
Superintendent of Police Dr K Karthikeyan commended the officers involved for their timely response and efficient investigation.
