Trichy, Tamil Nadu: Police arrested R Anwar, 34, from Samaspiran Street, for stealing a bag containing gold jewelry worth Rs2 lakh from a woman at the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Integrated Bus Terminus early Sunday morning.
The victim, V Thilaga, a jewel appraiser from Chennai, had traveled to Trichy the previous week to visit relatives. While waiting for her bus, Anwar stole her bag, which contained a 16-gram gold chain and a 5-gram gold ring. He boarded a bus heading towards the Chathiram bus stand, but suspicious behavior noticed by the bus crew led to his apprehension.
Thilaga filed a complaint, and a case was registered at the Edamalaipatti Pudur police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police recovered the stolen bag and jewels, and Anwar was remanded in judicial custody.
