Qadarius Grimes, 25, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison after a police search revealed multiple firearms and drugs at his residence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
In January 2024, the Rocky Mount Police Department (RMPD) received tips about crack cocaine being sold from a residence in Rocky Mount. Acting on this information, RMPD officers executed a search warrant on January 31, 2024. Upon entering the home, officers discovered multiple individuals, including Grimes, in a room containing a range of illegal items.
Among the items seized were 6.7 grams of crack cocaine, 6.55 grams of marijuana, three boxes of ammunition, several 12-gauge shotgun shells, two digital scales, and two empty Glock handgun boxes. Officers also found a hole in the floor, which led to the recovery of three more firearms, including a .40 caliber handgun with a switch and an extended magazine.
Forensic testing, completed in April 2024, revealed Grimes’ DNA on two of the firearms recovered. Additionally, in a statement to law enforcement on April 25, 2024, Grimes admitted to owning another 9mm firearm, which he claimed to have given to a family member.
This conviction is part of the ongoing Violent Crime Action Plan (VCAP), a collaborative initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through efforts from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Grimes’ case highlights the continued focus on addressing illegal firearm possession and drug trafficking in the region.
