In two separate human trafficking cases, authorities arrested two accused from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka for trafficking minor girls in Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh.
Pushpa Suren, a 22-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu, was arrested by Jashpur police on Sunday for abducting a 14-year-old girl in June 2024. The minor girl’s mother had filed a missing complaint, suspecting Pushpa, who had promised the girl work in another city. However, the girl was abandoned at Rourkela railway station after being lured. The Railway Police took her into custody and handed her over to Jashpur authorities, who later traced and arrested Pushpa seven months after the incident.
In a separate case, Maniram from Karnataka was arrested on Sunday in Jashpur for trafficking four minor girls. On October 6, 2024, a missing complaint was filed after a girl was lured away from her home by Maniram under the pretext of a job. Using intelligence from the cyber cell and informants, the police traced the victims across Karnataka and Jashpur. During a raid in Madari village, Karnataka, two missing teenagers were recovered along with two other minor girls in Jashpur. Maniram was arrested on site and sent to judicial custody.
Jashpur SSP Shashi Mohan Singh confirmed that under Operation Muskan, all victims were safely reunited with their families. Investigations continue to dismantle the trafficking network.
