Punjab police have arrested Manju Kumari for allegedly defrauding a woman of Rs 25 lakh by promising to arrange a visa for Canada. The accused, a resident of Punjab, was apprehended from a flat in Kharar on Sunday.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla Gaurav Singh, Manju contacted the victim months ago, claiming she could facilitate a Canadian visa. She then repeatedly asked for money, which the victim transferred in multiple installments. Over time, Manju began making excuses and avoided the victim’s calls.
The victim’s brother filed a complaint, prompting police to register a case under Sections 318(4) (cheating), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), and 352(2) (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police teams tracked Manju across Punjab and Haryana, where she had been frequently changing her locations and mobile numbers to evade arrest. She was finally caught and taken into custody, with investigations ongoing.
