Punjab Police’s Cybercrime Division has successfully arrested a man named Vijaypal, a resident of Ramsra in Fazilka, in connection with the illegal transmission and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) via online platforms. The authorities have identified 54 other individuals involved in similar activities.

Police officials confirmed that the arrest was made following intelligence gathered from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which led to a coordinated operation between Punjab’s cybercrime division and local law enforcement agencies, including police commissioners and SSPs.

The accused, Vijaypal, was apprehended after an investigation revealed his involvement in the viewing, transmitting, and distributing of CSAM. The police have also seized multiple electronic devices during the operation. An FIR has been filed at the Cyber Police Station, with charges under Section 67B of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, the investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are anticipated as part of a larger crackdown on the illegal online activities. ADGP Cybercrime V Neeraja stated that actions such as viewing, transmitting, or storing CSAM are criminal offenses under Section 67B of the IT Act (2000) and Section 15 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

This operation marks a significant effort to combat the growing issue of online child exploitation and ensure that perpetrators face legal consequences.
