Police have arrested Chaman Devi (28) and her paramour, Monu Sharma (20), in Pune city for the murder of Chaman’s husband, 34-year-old Vijay Chouhan. The victim’s decomposed body was discovered buried under floor tiles at their home in Gangnipada, Nallasopara, a suburb of Mumbai.

The grim discovery was made after Chouhan went missing for nearly two weeks. His brothers grew suspicious when they couldn’t reach him or his wife and noticed fresh tiles and a foul smell in the house.

The police registered an FIR under Sections 103 (murder), 238 (destruction of evidence), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. After investigations, the accused were traced to Hadapsar, Pune, and arrested on Tuesday.

ACP Bajrang Desai confirmed the arrests, and the accused are being brought back to Palghar for further investigation.

Senior Inspector Jitendra Vankoti said the investigation revealed that the couple allegedly killed Chouhan and tried to cover up the crime by burying his body under the floor tiles.
