Pune city police have identified two individuals allegedly responsible for supplying Mephedrone to two professionals arrested for drug consumption at Liquid Leisure Lounge, a popular pub located on Fergusson College Road in Pune.

On Tuesday, the police arrested Nitin Nathuram Thombre (34), an architect from Mumbai, and Karan Rajendra Mishra (34), an IT professional from Pune, after a viral video surfaced showing the two men consuming Mephedrone in the pub’s washroom. According to the police, the drug consumed by the two men was confirmed to be Mephedrone, a powerful synthetic stimulant commonly abused in party and nightlife scenes.

The video, which captured the two professionals engaging in illegal drug use, led to immediate police action. Both Thombre and Mishra were arrested on charges related to drug consumption and are currently being questioned about their involvement in the wider drug network.

In the course of the investigation, Pune police identified two suppliers who are believed to have provided the Mephedrone to the arrested men. Authorities are now working to trace the suppliers and dismantle the supply chain. The Anti-Narcotics Cell has joined the investigation to uncover the origins of the Mephedrone and any other individuals who may be linked to the distribution of the substance.

A senior police officer stated, “We have identified the suppliers of the Mephedrone consumed by the accused. Our investigation will continue to trace the flow of drugs and uncover the larger network involved.” Police are also focusing on Liquid Leisure Lounge, where the incident took place, and are looking into whether the pub had any role in facilitating drug use.

The arrests have raised questions about the growing issue of drug abuse in Pune’s nightlife scene. Mephedrone, often referred to as a “party drug,” has been linked to several cases of substance abuse, particularly in club and pub environments.
