The Pune rural police arrested two men from Karegaon village near the Pune-Nagar highway on Saturday for the brutal assault that led to the death of a pedestrian and injuries to another following a minor accident.
The deceased was identified as Siddiqui Mohammad Muzamil Mohammad Haji (34), a resident of Karegaon. Additional Superintendent of Pune Rural Police, Ramesh Chopade, said the accused have been named as Omkar Walke (26) and Vijay Jagdhane (30), both from Karegaon.
According to police, Walke and Jagdhane were riding a motorcycle at around 7 pm on Friday when their bike collided with Siddiqui and his brother, Mohammed (38). The two brothers, originally from Nanded district and working at a private company in Ranjangaon MIDC, confronted the bikers after the accident.
However, tensions escalated when Walke and Jagdhane took offense and later attacked Siddiqui and Mohammed around 2 am on Saturday with sticks and plastic pipes. Siddiqui succumbed to his injuries, while Mohammed was admitted to a hospital in Shirur.
Following the assault, the brothers lodged a complaint with the Ranjangaon MIDC police, who subsequently registered a murder case. Walke and Jagdhane were arrested by the district rural police and are being held for further investigation.
