In a major breakthrough, Pune Police dismantled two separate criminal gangs involved in mobile snatching and vehicle theft in the Koregaon Park and Kondhwa areas. Several arrests were made, and stolen property worth lakhs of rupees was recovered.
In Koregaon Park, a gang had been threatening citizens with weapons and stealing mobile phones. Acting on complaints near Wadia College and Chandrama Hotel, a special police team, led by PSI Srikant Chavan, laid a trap near Queens Garden railway track.
Four suspicious individuals were questioned, and when they tried to flee, police chased and detained them. Three accused—Siddharth Umesh More (19), Krishna alias Vicky Timreddy Dhangar (21), and Aryan Sambhaji Waghmare (19)—were arrested, and one minor was taken into custody. The gang admitted to three robberies in Koregaon Park and one in Wanwadi. Police recovered four mobile phones, a two-wheeler, a weapon, and cash.
Meanwhile, in Kondhwa, two men were arrested for vehicle theft after a stolen auto rickshaw was reported missing from Laxminagar on June 30. Acting on a tip-off, police tracked and arrested Pralhad Munjaji Ikhe (23) and Gajanan alias Raj Dattakhatpate (24) near Khadimachine Chowk, Pisoli. Recovered property included the stolen rickshaw and seven two-wheelers, worth approximately Rs2.5 lakh. The duo had eight criminal cases registered across Kondhwa, Lashkar, Kharadi, and Bhor police stations.
The operations were conducted under the guidance of Additional Police Commissioners, DCPs, and ACPs, with strong support from Senior Police Inspectors.
