In a significant move against drug trafficking, Pune Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) conducted two successful raids in Kondhwa and Bibvewadi, seizing narcotics valued at over Rs27 lakh and arresting two suspects.
The first operation took place near Bhairavnath Temple in Kondhwa following a tip-off received by police constable Sachin Malve. The suspect, Bhagirathram Ramlal Bishnoi (46) of Tilekar Nagar, Kondhwa, was found in possession of opium worth Rs14.98 lakh and an electronic weighing scale. A case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Kondhwa Police Station.
The second raid led to the arrest of Vitthal alias Anna Raghunath Karade (57), a Bibvewadi resident, caught with 55 grams of synthetic drug mephedrone valued at Rs11 lakh. Acting on intelligence from constable Azeem Shaikh, police set a trap to detain Karade, recovering a mobile phone and weighing scale along with the narcotics.
These coordinated operations were conducted under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pankaj Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner Vivek Masal, and Assistant Commissioners Ganesh Ingle and Rajendra Mulik. The on-ground teams included Police Inspector Sudarshan Gaikwad, PI Prashant Annachatre, Assistant Inspector Nitin Naik, and officers Yogesh Mandhre, Chetan Gaikwad, Sandeep Shelke, Nitin Jagdale, Yuvraj Kamble, and Dinesh Bastebad.
The ANC’s persistent crackdown underscores the growing concern over narcotics spread in urban areas and the continued efforts needed to combat drug trafficking.
