Police on Monday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir and seized 1.13 kg of a brown sugar–like substance from their vehicle. Officials said the arrests marked a major breakthrough in disrupting the narco-terror supply chain in the region.
According to a police spokesperson, a vigilant patrol team at Rahmoo Bridge Naka intercepted a suspicious vehicle carrying two individuals. During a thorough search of the vehicle, officers recovered the narcotic substance, preventing what they said was an attempt to smuggle a significant drug consignment into Pulwama.
The arrested men were identified as Muneer Ahmed Sheikh and Toufeeq Ahmed Sheikh. Police also seized the vehicle used for transporting the contraband, which is estimated to be worth crores of rupees.
A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Rajpora police station, and an investigation is underway to trace the supply chain, including the source of the contraband and its intended receivers.
