SEBASTIAN, Fla. – Jasmine Desha Green, a 27-year-old Publix employee, was arrested and charged with grand theft after allegedly stealing $800 from the cash register at the Publix store located at 9621 US Highway 1 in Sebastian.
According to a police affidavit, the thefts took place over two days, with $600 reported missing on January 1st, followed by another $200 missing on January 3rd. A Publix Loss Prevention Officer became suspicious of the missing money and reviewed the store’s security footage, where Green was seen opening the cash register drawer, removing cash, and placing it in her pocket.
On January 23rd, the Loss Prevention Officer confronted Green at the store. Green admitted to taking the $800 and explained that she was a single mother facing financial struggles, including the cost of childcare and transportation from her home in Fort Pierce to her job in Sebastian.
After confirming Green’s admission, Publix officials decided to press criminal charges, and the Sebastian Police Department was notified. Officers arrived, interviewed Green, and she again confessed to the theft.
Green was arrested and transported to the Indian River County Jail, where she was charged with grand theft. She is currently being held on a $2,500 bond.
