In a significant breakthrough in a financial fraud case worth Rs82 lakh, Priyanka Pal Saha, the wife of Police Constable Jayanta Saha, has been arrested in connection with the scam. The arrest took place in North Bengal, and Priyanka was subsequently brought to Udaipur on Friday where she was produced before the court.
The fraud had been initially discovered at HDFC Bank’s Udaipur branch, located in Gomati District of Tripura, and it has since been the subject of an intense investigation. Jayanta Saha, Priyanka’s husband, had already been arrested for his involvement in the same financial scam.
The investigation is being led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirman Das, with close supervision from senior officials, including the Additional Superintendent of Police. The fraud, which involved a massive sum of approximately Rs82 lakh, is still under investigation, with officials suggesting that there may be multiple individuals, both from within the bank and possibly external collaborators, involved in the crime.
Priyanka Pal Saha was detained by officers from Pradhan Nagar Police Station in Siliguri, West Bengal on April 21 and was brought to Udaipur via Agartala Airport. She was handed over to the Radhakishorepur Women’s Police Station and later presented in the District and Sessions Court. The court remanded her to one day of judicial custody.
This arrest marks a crucial step in uncovering the full extent of the fraud and identifying other potential accomplices. The investigation continues as authorities probe deeper into the scam.
