In a decisive move against human trafficking, Navi Mumbai Police arrested three men from West Bengal, officials announced on Friday.
The suspects — Shambhu Munilal Upadhyay, Dhirendra Tilakchand Arya, and Maqbool Bilal Ansari — had been on the run since July 23. They were tracked down and apprehended in Malda, West Bengal, by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU).
Senior Inspector Prithviraj Ghorpade, who led the operation, confirmed that the trio has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1946 (PITA).
The arrests mark a breakthrough in the ongoing effort to dismantle trafficking networks operating between Maharashtra and West Bengal. Investigations are continuing, with police exploring the suspects’ connections to a wider human trafficking ring.
