In a deeply disturbing incident of animal cruelty, a man identified as Pritam Sahu (40) from the Indiranagar area of Thane has been booked for sexually abusing a stray dog in the Wagle Estate locality.
The incident was first reported by local volunteer Shubham Chandaliya, who caught the accused in the act. Prompt intervention by animal activists led to swift legal action. An FIR was registered at the Shrinagar Police Station under Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The case was filed by animal activist Yogita Narwekar of the PAL (Pure Animal Lovers) Welfare Foundation, with support from Sudhir Kudalkar, founder of PAL, and Sandeep Kudtarkar, an Animal Rights Advisor and Officer with the Animal Welfare Board of India.
Video evidence of the incident was submitted to police, further strengthening the case against the accused. PAL volunteer Sarthak Chougle ensured the abused animal was immediately taken to SPCA Parel Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
“This case underscores the desperate need for stricter animal protection laws,” said Kudtarkar. “We are pushing for a quick filing of the chargesheet and demand strong legal consequences for the accused.”
The PAL Foundation and other activists are urging the authorities and the community to stand united against such horrific crimes and ensure justice for voiceless animals.
