LAGOS, Nigeria — The Airport Police Command in Lagos has arrested a 24-year-old man, Precious Onudhona, over his alleged role in a fraud scheme valued at ₦48.5 million, police confirmed.

Onudhona was apprehended on February 2, 2026, while attempting to board a flight to Asaba, Delta State. Investigators said he was part of a fraud syndicate that carried out online romance scams and deceptive financial solicitations.

According to police findings, the suspect joined the criminal network in 2023. The group allegedly used fake social media profiles, including impersonating an American medical doctor identified as “Travis Kevin,” to manipulate victims into sending money under false pretenses.

Authorities noted that the syndicate relied heavily on social engineering tactics and digital anonymity, often requesting payments through cryptocurrency channels, which complicates financial tracing and recovery efforts for victims.

Police said the arrest underscores increased surveillance at travel hubs to prevent suspects from fleeing after committing financial crimes. Investigations into the wider network are ongoing.

The case highlights the growing sophistication of online fraud schemes and reinforces the need for public awareness, improved cybersecurity practices, and stronger collaboration among law enforcement agencies.
