Amasebailu police have arrested a man who allegedly cheated a jewellery store by showing a fake NEFT payment slip and walking away with gold rings worth thousands of rupees.
The incident occurred on November 3, 2024, when the accused, initially identifying himself as “Santosh”, arrived at Sri Krishna Jewellery in Hosangadi in a car. Claiming he was buying a gift, he selected two gold rings worth approximately Rs30,000.
According to police, the man showed the store owner, Manjunath Golla, a fabricated NEFT confirmation on his mobile phone. Believing the payment had been made, the jeweller handed over the rings.
However, when the amount did not reflect in the shop’s bank account, Manjunath contacted the man, who promised to pay the next day but never did. A case was promptly registered at Amasebailu Police Station.
After an investigation, police identified the suspect as Praveen, who had been absconding. He was arrested on September 29, and police recovered both the car used in the crime and the stolen gold rings.
Praveen has since been produced in court, and further investigation is underway.
The swift action by the Amasebailu police has drawn praise for recovering the stolen property and bringing the accused to justice.
