In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics, the Tiruvallur district police arrested Prathap (27) of Tirupattur and Mohammad Afrath (23) of Kanyakumari near the Chennai–Bengaluru Highway on Sunday. The duo was caught with 75 grams of methamphetamine, marking another key development in the interstate drug trafficking investigation.
These arrests come in the wake of the November 8 arrest of Bende (43), a Senegal national believed to be the kingpin of an interstate drug network. Bende was apprehended from a Delhi apartment after a 10-day manhunt, where police also seized several mobile phones containing vital information on drug routes across multiple states.
The probe began after the Manavalanagar police intercepted methamphetamine and arrested an Indian along with two foreign nationals, which later led to the detention of Chennai-based influencer Sibiraj (22).
With the latest arrests of Prathap and Afrath, a total of ten people are now in custody. Authorities are continuing to track the larger supply chain and possible international links to the network.
