Malad police have arrested 18-year-old Pratham Surendra Bomma for allegedly stealing motorcycles across Mumbai to feature in Instagram reels. Authorities recovered five stolen scooters valued at Rs 3.5 lakh and linked Bomma to at least 14 thefts over the last six months.
Bomma, a resident of Malwani, reportedly committed the thefts to gain social media followers, impress girls, and project a luxurious lifestyle, despite coming from a modest family background.
Police traced Bomma through CCTV footage and information from confidential sources to his residence, where he admitted to stealing vehicles in areas including Malad, Jogeshwari, and Vinoba Bhave Nagar.
Officials said the teen’s actions highlight a growing trend of social media-driven crimes, as young individuals attempt to gain online attention through illegal means.
