In a major crackdown on the narcotics trade, the Puri Town Police seized 200 grams of brown sugar valued at approximately Rs20 lakh during a raid in Neelachakra Nagar.
Two individuals were arrested in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Sukanti Panda, a resident of Neelachakra Nagar in Puri, and Mohammad Sajad of Jaleswar. Both were later produced before a local court following their arrest.
Apart from the contraband, police recovered Rs52,000 in cash, a four-wheeler vehicle, and two mobile phones from the accused during the operation.
Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh stated that the raid was carried out as part of “Operation Chakra,” a district-wide initiative aimed at cracking down on criminals and drug traffickers.
Acting on a specific tip-off regarding the illegal sale of brown sugar in Neelachakra Nagar, a special team from the Town Police Station conducted the raid and successfully apprehended the duo.
SP Singh assured that similar independent and intelligence-based operations will continue in the coming days to eliminate the drug menace from Puri district.
