The Yerawada Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a fatal car accident at Toit Restaurant and Bar in Kalyani Nagar, which claimed the life of a valet parking attendant. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered.
The deceased was identified as Satyendra Mandal (35), who succumbed to injuries caused by excessive blood loss. Police said the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The primary accused has been named as Pratap alias Pratapsingh Bharatrao Dhaygude (49), a resident of Dhanori currently staying in Atlanta Society, Nerul, Navi Mumbai. Authorities are verifying whether he has any previous criminal record. Charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 2:45 pm on Sunday. The FIR was filed the same day by complainant Prakash alias Peter Anthony Menezes (41), a resident of Desai Building, Digambar Nagar, Vadgaon Sheri, who stated that repeated requests were ignored by the accused not to drive while intoxicated.
“Despite being fully aware that driving under the influence could lead to loss of life, the accused drove at high speed in a reckless and dangerous manner, resulting in the death of the hotel’s valet employee,” said Senior Inspector Anjum Bagwan of the Yerawada police station.
“He not only endangered his own life but also that of the hotel staff present at the premises. His negligent driving directly caused this fatality,” the officer added.
