Thane, Maharashtra — Sept 29: In a major crackdown, police in Bhiwandi taluka of Thane district arrested two individuals with nearly 5 kilograms of ganja and recovered an illegal country-made pistol from one of the accused. The total value of the seized items amounts to Rs7.39 lakh, officials confirmed.
The action was carried out by Crime Unit 2 in Bhiwandi on Monday, based on a tip-off. The suspects were caught red-handed when they arrived to sell the narcotics. They have been identified as:
Prashant alias Salad Suresh Tayde (27)
Sohail alias Pittal Irfan Ali Ansari (20)
Police initially recovered 4.827 kg of ganja, a two-wheeler, and other valuables worth Rs3.54 lakh. Upon further investigation, a raid at Tayde’s residence led to the discovery of a country-made pistol and a live cartridge, boosting the total seizure to Rs7.39 lakh.
A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Bhiwandi City Police Station. Both accused were remanded to police custody till September 24.
