Thrikkakara Police have arrested Prashant Manger, a 33-year-old native of West Bengal, for allegedly stealing Rs40,000 from the PWD Working Women’s Hostel in the Kakkanad NGO Quarters area.
The theft occurred while the hostel was closed for the Onam holidays. Despite the hostel having a fingerprint access system and no signs of forced entry, the police quickly investigated by analyzing the access data.
The fingerprint machine logs revealed that a person authorized with fingerprint number 618 entered the hostel at 9:18 am on September 4 and later, at 11:59 pm on September 5, someone used the access card to enter and exit at 12:14 am after committing the theft. Further investigation linked fingerprint 618 to Manger, who was employed as a security guard at the hostel.
Though Manger had left for his hometown, mobile phone location data confirmed he was near the hostel at the time of the crime. He was summoned upon returning to Kerala and initially denied the theft. However, a fingerprint test at the hostel confirmed his involvement, and he admitted to spending the stolen money.
The investigation, led by Sub-Inspector Anas V B under Inspector Sudheer A K and guided by Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner Vijayan T B, resulted in Manger’s arrest. He was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
